Slovakia 1-2 Ukraine: Super-sub Yaremchuk throws Euro 2024 Group E wide open

Ukraine defeated Slovakia 2-1 thanks to Roman Yaremchuk s excellent finish to throw Euro 2024 Group E wide open.

Having been beaten 3-0 by Romania in their opening match, Ukraine looked on course for another loss when Ivan Schranz Slovakia s matchwinner against Belgium opened the scoring in Dusseldorf.

Yet a much-improved second-half display saw Serhii Rebrov s team turn the match on its head, with substitute Yaremchuk capping a fine comeback.

Mykola Shaparenko drilled in from Oleksandr Zinchenko s centre in the 54th minute to restore parity, and subsequently turned provider for Yaremchuk s winner 10 minutes from time.

The striker brilliantly took down Shaparenko s searching pass over the top, taking it under his spell before slotting under Martin Dubravk…

Minnesota United v Vancouver Whitecaps: Ramsay looking for enthusiasm to end Loons´ losing run

Minnesota United head coach Eric Ramsay wants his team to grind through their tough period as they aim to bounce back against Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday.

The Loons are winless in five and have lost each of their last four matches, conceding a stoppage-time winner against Portland Timbers last time out to extend that run.

They have dropped to seventh in the Western Conference, and Ramsay is confident he will get the reaction he needs from his players.

We ve got to take the best from [the defeat] and really try and grind through what is an immensely difficult period for us and come out of the other side well, he said.

We ve got to move forward in as constructive and pragmatic a way that we can. That is the only attitude that can be adopted at the mo…

Dortmund thrash PSV in 2017 opener

Borussia Dortmund began 2017 in typically net-bulging fashion, hammering Dutch champions PSV 4-1 in Cadiz.

Though languishing sixth in the Bundesliga at the mid-season pause, only Bayern Munich have scored more league goals than Dortmund s 35 and their 8-4 win over Legia Warsaw was a Champions League-record goalfest.

Thomas Tuchel picked a strong side in Spain, only Africa Cup of Nations-bound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was missing, but the striker s replacement Adrian Ramos showed his class, setting up Dortmund s first two goals through Marco Reus and Shinji Kagawa – Reus finding the net a minute after missing a penalty.

Tuchel made 11 changes at the break, but there was no let-up for PSV as Andre Schurrle and Christian Pulisic put a dominant gloss on the score…

Allegri says Juventus future will become clear in next two weeks

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said questions regarding his future will be resolved in the next couple of weeks after the Bianconeri s slump continued with Sunday s 1-1 draw with Salernitana.

Juve looked set for a humiliating Serie A loss at home to Stefano Colantuono s already-relegated side, only for Adrien Rabiot to equalise in stoppage time.

It was a fifth straight league draw for Allegri s side, who have slipped to fourth in Serie A, seven points behind second-placed Milan and level with Bologna in third.

Juve were neck-and-neck with recently crowned Scudetto winners Inter at the turn of the year, and their dismal end to the season has seen Allegri s position called into question.

Asked about his future on Sunday, Allegri said: Just be patient a…

Manchester United post record revenues of £627.1million for 2019

Manchester United have announced record revenues of £627.1million and an operating profit of £50m for 2019.

A run to the Champions League quarter-finals and an increase in broadcasting revenue helped the Red Devils achieve record figures for the fiscal year.

Revenues were within the estimated range of £615m to £630m, as noted in their Q3 results, but are expected to fall to £580m or below in 2020 due to a lack of Champions League football.

United are second only to Real Madrid in terms of global revenue in football, the LaLiga giants having generated £662.5m in 2018, according to this year s Deloitte Football Money League.

The positive financial figures come despite a difficult run of results for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s side since March, the Red …

Ronaldo like a 12th player during Euro 2016 final – Santos

Portugal coach Fernando Santos hailed Cristiano Ronaldo and said his captain was a 12th player during their Euro 2016 final win.

Ronaldo came off after just 25 minutes of the decider in July last year due to a knee injury, but his side managed to edge France 1-0 after extra time.

The Real Madrid star, along with his coach, was vocal from the sidelines as Eder proved the match-winner.

Santos praised Ronaldo for his role in helping Portugal secure a first major trophy.

Cristiano played part of the final. Second, his presence on the field, after he went off injured, it was like having a 12th player, he told Corriere della Sera.

Ronaldo was criticised for his actions during the final, with some suggesting he was coaching ahead of Santos.

Alonso wary of Kiel threat ahead of landmark Leverkusen outing

Xabi Alonso hopes to mark his 100th game in charge of Bayer Leverkusen with a victory, but the Spaniard is not underestimating bottom club Holstein Kiel.

Alonso led his side to a win over Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, with the Bundesliga champions one of only seven teams with a perfect record in the competition so far.

But their fortunes in the league have been much different, taking 10 points from their opening five games, the latest of which ended in a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich.

Leverkusen s start to the campaign is the worst by a reigning champion in 12 years since Borussia Dortmund managed eight points after the first five games in 2012-13.

But Alonso, who has won 67 of 99 games in charge of Die Werkself, is wary of the threat this w…

Man City post £126m loss in 2019-20 annual report

Manchester City have announced losses of £126million in their 2019-20 financial results as the Premier League leaders count the cost of the coronavirus pandemic.

Overall, City s revenues were down 11 per cent to £478.4million from the previous 12 months.

The year in question runs up until June 30, 2020, taking in the period when the Premier League was suspended due to the COVID-19 crisis and meaning deferred revenues for the 2019-20 campaign have impacted the figures.

Nevertheless, City s matchday revenue was down by £13.5million, UEFA broadcast revenue fell by £18.5m and all other television money dropped by £44.5m, although money raised from commercial streams was up by £19.5m.

Leroy Sane s move to Bayern Munich for an initial £44.7m is not incl…
