Bookmaker:

Hoping to briefly climb to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday lunchtime, Manchester City will make the trip to Leicester when this weekend s Premier League fixtures get underway.

Leicester

Starting with the hosts, while Leicester might have found themselves in the midst of a real Premier League nightmare when opening the 2022/23 campaign, it appears that the Foxes have found a much-needed boost since returning from September s international break. Last seen laying down a real marker as they breezed their way to a thumping 4-0 romp away at Wolves, Brendan Rodgers side have skyrocketed their way out of the relegation zone. Now claiming back-to-back top-flight victories, the one-time Liverpool boss has also seen his side lo…

Union Berlin 2-5 Bayern Munich: Lewandowski brace helps Bundesliga leaders ease to victory

Robert Lewandowski scored a double as Bayern Munich defeated Union Berlin 5-2 to keep the reigning champions top of the Bundesliga.

Julian Nagelsmann s side were thrashed 5-0 by Borussia Monchengladbach in Wednesday s DFB Pokal clash but Lewandowski s first-half brace settled any early nerves on Saturday.

Leroy Sane put Bayern three ahead away from home, although Niko Giesselmann hit back for Union – as did Julian Ryerson after Kingsley Coman had made it four.

Thomas Muller sealed the victory with just over 10 minutes remaining, netting Bayern s 38th goal after just 10 matches of the league season in a new Bundesliga record.

17/17 – Bayern’s Thomas Müller has scored against all 17 current Bundesliga sides other than Bayern. Union Berlin are the 2…

Jol not fazed by Europa challengers

Fulham boss Martin Jol insists his side is not daunted by their tough draw in the group stages of the Europa League.

Fulham – who made the final of the competition in 2009/10 where they lost to Atletico Madrid – were drawn in Group K alongside Eredivisie outfit FC Twente, Odense of Denmark and Wisla Krakow of Poland.

It is obviously a tough group, Jol said on Friday.

Wisla are champions in Poland, I know the manager there, he is Dutch (Robert Maaskant). Twente were obviously runners-up in Holland and went out against Benfica (in the Champions League knockout round).

Odense were runners-up in Denmark and went out against Villarreal. It is a tough group.

When quizzed on who was the strongest in the group, Jol named FC Twente, although he f…

Kimanzi to take charge of Kenya

Francis Kimanzi is the new Kenya coach following the sacking of Zedekiah Otieno.

Kenya failed to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, and much of the blame has been placed on Otieno s shoulders.

Kimanzi, previously in charge of Kenyan team Mathare United, will be taking charge of the Kenyan national side for the second time after short-lived stint in 2008-09.

Francis Kimanzi is the new coach. This has been decided by the National Executive Committee (NEC), the body s vice chairman Sammy Sholei said.

Kenya are currently in training and will face Seychelles in Word Cup qualifiers set for November 11 and 15.

Kenya are currently 135th in the FIFA rankings, and will be aiming to improve that standing w…

Lambert: Hutton is league´s best right-back

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert hailed Alan Hutton as the best right-back in the Premier League after his winner sank Leicester City.

The Scotland international scored his first goal since joining Villa in 2011 with a composed near-post finish to complete a 2-1 win for the hosts at Villa Park, after centre-back Ciaran Clark who himself ended a wait of over two years for a goal cancelled out Leonardo Ulloa s opener for the visitors.

It continues an impressive turnaround for Hutton at Villa after the full-back appeared destined for the exit door following loan spells at Nottingham Forest, Mallorca and Bolton Wanderers over the last two years.

And manager Lambert waxed lyrical about his contribution in Sunday s success a first on home soil for Villa since August …

Lennon eyeing Commons bid

Kris Commons is not getting a fair crack of the whip by Ronnie Deila . The managers system(?) does not suit his style of play and by passes him at times. But again can any one work out his system? He had no idea how to change it too try and break down a ten man wall against Ross County but it is other manager who play with ten men behind the ball that will drive the paying punters away with their NON football. But seem to put a feather in their cap when they got a draw. Yes Celts should be able to do it but I think they all had too much turkey!!

Pogba focused on Man United amid Real Madrid links – Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted Manchester United star Paul Pogba is unaffected by growing speculation linking him with LaLiga giants Real Madrid.

Talk of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu has intensified since Pogba said it would be a dream to play for Madrid following Zinedine Zidane s return last month.

The flirtation continued as Zidane voiced his admiration for the 2018 World Cup winner, who was a target for Madrid prior to him joining United from Juventus in 2016.

However, United manager Solskjaer said Pogba is committed to the club s cause this season amid the ongoing rumours.

The manager spoke about the captaincy in today s press conference.

Lack of squad depth could spell disaster for Sunderland

Sunderland boss David Moyes has a rather small squad at his disposal

Sunderland have been the perennial survivors of the Premier League in recent years.

Each season the Black Cats flirt with relegation, only to pull away at the dying embers of the campaign.

This season under David Moyes it could be just as tough to survive the drop, as their squad was light when the Scot arrived at the Stadium of Light.

Moyes has since added defensive reinforcements in Papy Djilobodji, Paddy McNair and Donald Love.

However, the Black Cats need more than just those three additions to improve their fortunes for the new campaign, especially as a number of their perceived arrivals have strengthened their squads.

Moyes has to be admired

Inter CEO Marotta: Nerazzurri won´t approach Roma for Zaniolo

Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta said the Nerazzurri have not made an approach for Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo and probably won t in the future, while he also discussed the possibility of signing Alexis Sanchez permanently from Manchester United.

Zaniolo has flourished in the Italian capital since joining Roma from Serie A rivals Inter in 2018, establishing himself as a key player for the Giallorossi and Italy.

But the attacking midfielder, who returned from a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) earlier this month, has been linked with an Inter reunion, while Italian champions Juventus are also reportedly interested.

Marotta, however, played down reports Zaniolo could make a San Siro comeback prior to Sunday s 2-2 draw between Inter and Roma.

Real Sociedad 0 Atletico Madrid 2: Morata brace keeps Barca in sight

Atletico Madrid closed back to within seven points of Barcelona thanks to Alvaro Morata s quickfire brace in a 2-0 win at Real Socieded on Sunday.

Spain striker Morata opened his Atletico account in last weekend s victory over Villarreal and boosted his tally to three goals in two games with a pair of headers in the space of three first-half minutes.

Diego Simeone s side needed three points to stay in touch with LaLiga leaders Barca, who edged Real Madrid 1-0 in El Clasico on Saturday, and had to complete the job with 10 men after Koke received a second yellow in the 62nd minute.

But the home side, unbeaten in their 10 previous outings across all competitions, failed to make the advantage count and could not keep the Rojiblancos from moving five points clear…
